Luxury Vinyl Care and Maintenance

Many of today’s resilient (vinyl) flooring are 100% waterproof, making them great low maintenance flooring options for bathrooms, dens, and kitchens. While many manufacturers offer water-resistant technology built into the plank and tile finish, like Shaw’s Floorte PRO with ArmourBead finish, it is still important to wipe away water spills as quickly as possible.

Carpet Land’s flooring experts put together the following tips on how to care for your new luxury vinyl tiles and planks.

Luxury Vinyl Care and Maintenance

Frequent care and maintenance of your luxury vinyl tiles and planks can be quickly built into your overall home cleaning routine!

Daily Cleaning and Protection

For daily upkeep, sweep, dust mop, or use a manufacturer-approved vacuum cleaner without a beater bar to keep your floors free of dirt and debris. Place heavy furniture on protective mats to prevent scratches from furniture legs. Additionally, use entry doormats or floor protectors in high-traffic areas and at room entrances to avoid tracking dirt, sand, and soil onto your luxury vinyl flooring.

Deep Cleaning and Spill Care

If your luxury vinyl flooring needs more than just a dry surface clean, wash the floor with a manufacturer-approved cleaning solution like Shaw R2X Hardsurface Floor Cleaner and follow their guidelines. For most approved cleaning solutions, you just need to spray and wipe dry without any unnecessary rinsing or washing.

When it comes to those common household spills, wipe up spills with a micro-cloth, and once dry, follow up with a manufacturer-approved hard surface floor cleaner to keep your floors looking great! For tougher household messes like wax, gum, or nail polish, consult with your manufacturers guidelines for approved stain removal tips.

Preventing Damage from Furniture and Foot Traffic

Use furniture sliders or felt pads under heavy furniture to prevent dents and scratches when moving items. Avoid dragging furniture across the floor. Also, keep high-heeled shoes and pet nails trimmed to minimize wear and tear on your luxury vinyl flooring.

Avoiding Sunlight and Heat Damage

Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading or discoloration of vinyl floors. Use curtains or blinds to shield flooring in areas with intense sun exposure. Additionally, avoid placing heat sources like space heaters too close to the flooring to prevent warping or damage.
